Owning a business in a Midwestern small town is a daunting task. The idea of a storefront with customers waiting at the door to buy your goods is part of the outdated American dream. It was the answer to my business needs. A group of professional marketers opened up their doors to our community and offered their services to business owners. Led by Elizabeth Collins, this group has thoughtfully and gently brought us into this technologically advanced society and given our businesses an edge. She explains to us the tools to survive in the huge marketplace and gives us the confidence to try new things that we thought were not in our reach. The support that this small, but growing group has offered to business owners is amazing. The opportunity to ask questions, sample ideas, and solve problems is incredible. I no longer feel alone in the small town struggle to keep my business alive and that is invaluable. AND IT’S FREE.

I encourage our NEKEF clients to attend the Brown Bag Marketing Exchange sessions. Elizabeth Collins does an excellent job of helping the group navigate digital social media platforms. She also advises on best practices in other mixed methods such as print, email services, specialty items, events and more. Read More
The interaction between business owners alone has been such a valuable by-product. Now there is a community of entrepreneurs who can turn to the group for help, opinions and resources. Often business owners feel all alone, like no one understands, but with this network they all can achieve these steps together! It’s become a safe place for them to explore new digital platforms, share their successes, ask meaningful questions, all while having fun with others in the same boat. I highly recommend anyone who owns a business, markets for an organization or promotes a community endeavor or event attend these free sessions and join the Facebook Group. Many clients have expressed they attend as many sessions a month that their schedule allows because they always have such great takeaways and are already seeing big results.

“Amazing resource not only to the local business community, but also to public and non-profit organizations. “
The Brown Bag Marketing program that Elizabeth Collins and her team from Webcom Resources offered to the rural Northeast Kansas communities was an amazing resource not only to the local business community, but also to public and non-profit organizations. Read More
It’s no secret that it takes a little bit longer for rural communities to adapt to new technologies and techniques, especially as innovation and technology seems to be developing and changing at a quicker rate than ever before. Having someone like Elizabeth and her team to step in and volunteer to be a mentor and provide free and confidential advice and skills to those in the community who were eager learn how to master new channels and techniques of communication is an incredible asset for our communities. The other benefit of these meetings was not only the technical knowledge that was gained through these sessions, but also the networking of businesses across a 5-county area. It is so important for the rural areas to strive to collaborate as a region if they are going to adapt and thrive in modern day America. I would recommend Brown Bag Marketing Exchange to any individual or business who is looking to get plugged into the Northeast Kansas business community and would like to hone their marketing skills, no matter their level of expertise or knowledge of marketing.
Angie Cairo Operations Manager for McElwain Sprayers and Amelia Earhart Airport.
“With Elizabeth and her staff, you get a team of individuals who are looking to find out what your needs are and help you achieve them!”
I have continued updating the Amelia Earhart Airport Facebook page through the Brown Bag meetings. The session where we learned about information on how to showcase services was very helpful, and I was able to include pictures that showcased the special services we provide. Also, I have utilized the information from the marketing sessions to do some targeted marketing which has brought in new customers. With Elizabeth and her staff, you get a team of individuals who are looking to find out what your needs are and help you achieve them!

About Brown Bag Marketing

Brown Bag Marketing is a community of marketing experts and small business owners who collaborate and share marketing tips that work for rural communities. Whether using the Facebook group or attending an in-person exchange of ideas, there’s always something to be learned from the community.

Brown Bag Marketing was started January of 2017 by Elizabeth Collins. Elizabeth recognized the overwhelming need of businesses in rural communities to understand and implement digital marketing, and wanted to help.

Elizabeth started bi-weekly Brown Bag Marketing Exchange sessions during Mondays because small businesses are often closed on Mondays. She chose lunchtime so that marketing managers could attend the sessions on their scheduled lunch breaks without missing too much time at work. In 2018, evening sessions were added to accommodate businesses owners who could not get away during business hours.

During the weekly sessions, Elizabeth and the group cover general marketing topics as well as specifics on social media, email, websites, and other digital marketing challenges. Elizabeth’s goal is to answer any and all questions and provide as much hands-on assistance as possible within the hour session.
