Project Goal: increase tourism for the gypsum hills region of Kansas

Project Overview

Barber County Economic Development contacted us to create a tourism brand for the gypsum hills region of Kansas, with the goal of building from the momentum of the annual Peace Treaty Festival weekend held in Medicine Lodge, KS.

The region had very few digital marketing assets available, which made it difficult for potential tourist to know what was available in the area. The natural beauty of the region is a big draw to the area, and became central to the tourism brand, Kansas Like You’ve Never Seen. Local events, activities, and destinations were organized in a custom WordPress site. Organizing the local businesses with attractive photos and descriptions made it easy to promote where to shop and eat while in the Gyp Hills.

We created rich blog content highlighting key events and attractions, focused on posting only highly engaging posts on Facebook, and established an Instagram account to connect with users who were not aware of this beautiful area of Kansas.

The annual Peace Treaty Festival was already a big draw to the area. The Visit the Gyp Hills team was able to use the high engagement rates built up over the preceding months and the interest in the region during the event to promote a new invitational rodeo event the following weekend that was so successful the event planners decided to make it an annual event.
