The Facebook Pixel gives you power.
The Facebook pixel is free digital tracking tool. Very much like the Google Analytics tracking code, the Facebook pixel is a bit of code that you insert into the behind-the-scenes of your website. To help you install it, I wrote an article a few months ago listing the top ten website platforms and how to install the Facebook pixel on each one.
What can the Facebook pixel do?
- The Facebook pixel enables you to track your website visitors. As soon as someone visits your website, the Facebook pixel matches that visit to a Facebook user. Although you won’t be able to know specifically who that Facebook user is, now you can track that user for up to a year. You can also track that user’s activity when they return to your website.
- The Facebook pixel enables you to retarget visitors to your site with reminders and special offers. If a user comes to your site, and visits a page about Mother’s Day flower arrangements, you can tell Facebook to send pictures of those arrangements to everybody who's visited that page because you know they're interested. You can also include a link to buy or contact about the arrangements.
- The Facebook pixel allows you to track conversions. A conversion is a completed action that you want someone to take on your website. That action could be subscribe to an email list, fill out a lead form, or make a purchase, to name a few. The Facebook pixel will help you determine how much money you are spending per conversion, and if you need to re-evaluate and adjust your ad spend to get the best results for your money.
Worth the effort
Even if you don't fully understand the capabilities of the Facebook pixel, it’s definitely worth the effort to install it on your website so that you can at least start gathering data. Putting all that data to use for you will be easier and easier with each Brown Bag Marketing Bits you read. :)
